The money could distract the course of an organization as well the priority of how things could go.
Do we see NASA an investment or a totally lost?
Do we see NASA money for pride to be in space?
Should NASA be a nonprofit organization? Will survived?
Who are the Stockholders in NASA?
Stockholders: employees, families of employees, government, private contractors, clients, media, suppliers, vendors, development, risk managers, costumers, stock holders.
Organized the Whole
The parts cannot all be optimized
Parts must be sub optimized
The things that can benefit as all
Well from a Technology point of view we need the rest of the organization involved so we can be successful.
Starting with the Capital we need enough found so we can expend our operation also to be able to stay in top of the technologies.
From the organization we need people to work together and make sure that all the channels of communication are working well. Also we want to be able to trust the organization at all levels.
From the people we need to most qualified people as well train and very flexible. We want to be able to have people that could adjust fast and love to work in a team. We want people with values so we can trust them. People that we can depend on.
From the market we want to be able to be independent financial. Also to be efficient and profitable organization because if the organization is profitable as a technology department we are successful.
All five parts of the operation need to work together because this will be the only way we are going to be successful. Is more like a team work you can have a star but if the team doesn’t work together you loose and in the end that is what matter in the business world. If you want to be effective you need to work effective, communicate, effective, plan effective. To change, to operate, to have a strategy you come to an operation the is a Win/Win as a structure.

NASA and Technology
Claudiu Bora
We have five areas of debate:
People
Organization
Market
Technology
Capital
We where part of the technology where we had.
1) Change
2) Operation
3) Strategic
Well first NASA didn’t make to much updates in the program which could affected the Columbia mission. They where aware about the updates and having some equipment since the 60 and 70s doesn’t really help to accomplish a mission.
Second the operation of the program didn’t run as well as they thought it will in a very critical situation. Mistake where made but the problem wasn’t totally there because the entire operation stumble aver more than one problem at the time. Took to much time to see the problem to consider the problem to resolve the problem and to get feedback and analyzed the problem.
Third as a strategy I think NASA didn’t had one they expected that things will be ok and that lead to a lot of panic when things didn’t go well. Having a back up plan will help a lot because they will be able to have a team ready to be able to report, react and act faster by having totally access to all the Channels of communication in NASA.
As a technology team in the class we all agreed that technology was a big part of the failure of Columbia but also of some other missions.
In the survey that we did out of the 20 question we evaluate NASA and we came up with 1been as a very poor job eight times with 2 one time with 3 nine times with 4 two times and with 5 one time. I think NASA is doing something good too is not a totally a disaster but there are a lot of area of concerns when is coming to the technology.
So we came up with some question:
1) What is the strategy to change NASA?
2) How is NASA going to deal with the future missions?
3) How we get people to trust the NASA program?
4) How will you plan to make people in the NASA to be heard from each level in the organization?
5) What will be the other ways too justifies the funding?
6) How will you organize better communications channels?
7) How often should NASA do upgrades?
8) Who decided that the technology is too old?
9) How much level of responsibility should be given to the staff?
10) How you will make people to communicate?
As a group we conclude it that the program itself is not very efficient because some of the founds are not very well manage and they end up no be invested in the areas where they should like technology. Without the advance technology is hard to be successful and have safe missions. I think NASA is gambling each time when they live technology not been a priority in the program. So I think that NASA should look to the program and as themselves where is NASA going to be ten years from now fifty years from now one hundred years from now.

Columbia a decission of money and politics
The Empowerment in the Columbia deserter comes to the point that people don’t like to be wrong.I think also where money and politics involved there becomes a lot of pressure that could lead to a lot miscommunication. “Time becomes money”Also the look of confidence and seeing people more like objects things could go wrong. As a concern the people in charge I feel they where more preoccupied with the safety of the shuttle instead with the safety of the astronauts.

Columbia Final Mission
Columbia Final MissionCase Study01/12/07Claudiu BoraQuestions:What NASA learn from this tragedy?Where did the communication flail? Can the foam can be replaced with a different material? Why there is always need of some type of sacrifice before something is done?(Ex 9/11) Why in the Columbia disaster nobody took responsibility? In a life dead circumstance who has the right the way to the final decision? How many people should be involved in a case like that?In the Columbia disaster was a communication problem or a technical and political problem? How much political influence should be in the NASA missions?Things I that I learn from the class discussionThere where to many parties involved in the decision of what to be done and some where the main decision was lost n the middle which cause to come to a nobody want to take the responsibility of the incident.Political influence had play a role in this deserter as well they where aware about the problem before even was a problem but was nothing done to stop that. There where attempts but was more like “we need facts and not doubts”.Having to many centers and trying to connect them was a problem that NSA was also dealing with. I think even having that could work for example the US National Bank has more than one brunch but works very smooth so is possible because there is not a political influence at al is an independent and neutral branch of the U.S.AFor some reasons feel like America likes to take risk which I think is a part of the culture but in the same time is a danger ground in specially when you deal with a space program where you have decisions in a hundreds of seconds, minutes and hours. Some of the decisions that are to be made in NASA are irreversible. So there need to be responsibility and accountability.I think NASA becomes a successful program because they look to the mistakes and they trying to fix them but that is only from the technical point of view. NASA is still facing the communication problem as well working on the political clock will made the future mission as dangerous as Columbia.Organization that I been involved inI think the best example will be the LDS Church that has a perfect structure.Another one will be working as a supervisor in the MC where you have a school president, manager, employee’s supervisors that break down in more with more responsibility and with less and after that goes to student supervisor which is me and to the student. From experience I saw a lot of times the system falling some whereBut I think the way some systems are they could recover. Is more like having an emergency electric generator. If you have a failure you have something to back out the problem with so in this way you could fix the problem and not be affected by.

“As long as you live, don't ever forget that while you may succeed beyond your fondest hopes and your greatest expectations, you will never succeed beyond the purpose to which you are willing to surrender. Furthermore, your surrender will not be complete until you adopt the winners philosophy that all progress, change, and success is based on a foundation of inconvenience! “( by Gary Ryan Blair)
I am not agree with the author I think success is more than inconvenience I think you are motivated to succeed to become better person. Success is stimulus that drives you to become and be good at something. If success is an inconvenience why even tray to succeed I think people are looking for success as a way to go behind their normal average. Yes you have expectations but in the same time you are wiling to fight and tray again and again until you achieve your goals. I think people that are wiling to surrender are people that don’t have propose in life and I don’t think even this people exist because we are all children of Our Heavenly Father and we all have a propose in this life.

Columbia a dream that almost came true
To have the power to act but not have the will to do it
Where the communication effectiveness did became less effective?
If the people didn’t act what was the reason? Is there more that one reason? Was there intentional or unintentional?
We come to realized that Empower people don’t want to be wrong. But then how we make our point of view know? Do we act? Is there a good time or bead time?
Aliment
What is it?
Looking to the problem as the problem to the right channel.
Is there a W/W society?
Is the look of confidence a look of commitment or just a receipt of disaster?
Did the Columbia mission lost priority by been more focus on the fact and reasons which lead them to the blind spot that they where able to see how serious the situation was. Almost like the mirrors to the car that let you the objects are closer than they really appear.
Do the astronauts in the Colombia mission lost their freedom? Well I think they did at a certain point in the mission because somebody else decided their destiny.

Best Lesson
The best lessons I had so far been on my mission. I had the chance to serve in Utah Provo Mission in five years a go. Was a very spiritual and humble experience for me because I was a very new member of the church one year before I was on the mission field. Also my mothers join in the church in my mission.
Another best lesson the I learn was last year in one of my Interpersonal Communication class I learn a lot how to deal and communicate with people more efficient.
